Dear Family and Friends,
As most of you know, I was accepted into the University of Washington online Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree program in autumn 2008. Less than two years later, I have completed nearly all of the required credits. Though I will need to take two classes this summer to finish up, I will be participating in the graduation events this coming June. Being a Master student has been an amazing journey and it will be fun to cap it off by experiencing all of the graduation hoopla. All this will take place just a week after I turn 49 on June 4th!
The first event will be the iSchool Convocation, which is specifically for the Information School community to celebrate its graduates from the Informatics, MSIM, MLIS, and PhD programs. My Masters hood will be placed upon me at this time.
The second event will be the UW Commencement Ceremony, which is for all graduates. I will receive my (ceremonial) diploma at this time.
We are allowed to have guests attend these ceremonies. I do have some "extra" tickets available for anyone who would like to attend one or both of these events. You will need to let me know, as soon as possible, so that I can finalize the ticket and parking pass arrangements.
Thank you all, for your love and support - past, present, and future!
Blessings,

Hello Everyone,
Hello Everyone,
I have received many queries regarding my plans following graduation. As I mentioned previously, I will be taking two classes this summer to finish up my degree. One is my professional portfolio class. I am taking it in fulfillment of the MLIS culminating experience requirement. We have the option of choosing to do a professional portfolio, a legacy portfolio, a capstone project, or a masters thesis for our culminating experience. The professional portfolio is designed to demonstrate knowledge and skill in relation to specific outcomes, and to provide a digital repository of my student projects and papers.
My other class is an independent study. I will be researching library outreach to senior citizens. I will look at what kinds of senior programs are being offered by various libraries, obstacles to offering senior programs (particularly staffing and budgets), what kinds of programs can be implemented with little or no staff/budget allocation, ways libraries might be collaborating with local businesses and/or social services to provide senior programming, and library web page designs that distinctly and effectively target seniors.
As for what comes after that, only God knows. I have been taking this journey one step at a time. God has been faithful every step of the way, and I trust He will provide the right job at the right time. Being a masters student has been a lot of hard work, but I cherish this experience. I look forward to things to come. Though I do not know what the future holds, I do know Who holds the future!
Later this week I will be heading to Seattle for the Convocation and Commencement ceremonies. I feel honored to be having several guests attend both ceremonies. I do still have one ticket available for the Thursday evening ceremony and two tickets available for the Saturday ceremony. If you were wanting to attend, but you were thinking it is too late, it is not. Once again, you need to let me know right away if you do want to attend.
If attending in person is not an option for you, the Saturday ceremony can be watched live online via the
webcast by clicking on the following URL: http://www.uwtv.org/.
